Ella Sherman was born in New York but grew up in Belgium. She studied fine arts and design at Hunter College under Tony Smith. There, she costumed the theatrical production of “The House of Bernarda Alba”. After graduation she went on to design costumes for various plays at LaMama Etc. Of note, the Broadway showcase of the phantasmagoric extravaganza “Gloria and Esperanza” by the late playwright Julie Bovasso.
Ella’s ceramics, jewelry and sculptures have been exhibited in New Jersey and New York, at craft shows, stores and galleries.
Her inspiration is New York City, its decorative architecture, from Beaux Arts to Art Deco, to Moderne Minimalism: the endlessly changing face of the City! The Art Students League is her home base. Bronze is her new medium!
